Highlights and attractions in Granbury
The city of Granbury is always proud to celebrate its history, heritage, and traditions – its motto is “Where Texas history lives” – and it has plenty of natural attractions as well.
- Historic Granbury Square – The heart of Granbury, this was Texas’ very first downtown area ever to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. With more than 50 shops, dozens of restaurants, an actual opera house (now home to the Granbury Theatre Company), and more, you won’t run out of things to see, do, and sample here. The square also frequently hosts live entertainment and distinctive art exhibits.
- Lake Granbury and Granbury City Beach Park – A reservoir on the Brazos River, Lake Granbury has a surface area of 8,310 acres and over a hundred miles of shoreline. Fishing, boating, and jet-skiing are just some of the many activities you can enjoy on the lake.
Go for a swim or a picnic at Granbury City Beach Park on Lake Granbury, which is just a short walk from the square. Splash around in the spray park, rent a kayak, get a volleyball game on, or just relax and enjoy the view.
- General Granbury’s Birthday Weekend – Celebrate the town’s namesake every second week of March. For the past 40 years, General Granbury’s Birthday Weekend has been a highly anticipated and celebrated event in the community. The festivities include a parade, a cook-off, an outhouse race, and many more.
